Sacred Space Meeting Minutes from Charlene McAndrews
June 4, 2023
After a prayer. the meeting opened with a discussion of “Where are we now?” including the points that we are congregation led, small, mostly older adults, maintaining but not growing. The Sacred Space initiative (Church Building for Collaborative Partnerships) was explained as a way to connect with our community and utilize space in our building in creative ways to foster growth financially as well as in adding congregation numbers. Congregation members present were encouraged to consider our current assets. Some of the assets identified included:
• A church that is open to all / open communion
• Feels like a family
• Supportive
• Spirit filled
• On the river / good location / close to downtown / close to festivals
• Historic Heritage
• Multi talented congregation / wisdom with many older adults
• In the midst of a growing community
• Organ / great acoustics in church
Ideas for future growth (how can we use these assets) :
• Creating small venue for weddings, showers, reunions; consider talents of congregation in providing photography, catering etc.…
• Hosting music concerts, recitals
• Increasing visibility by having a signboard in front of building with church info
• Looking at current web page and face book page making certain it is user friendly
• Have a presence at local festivals handing out water / sharing info about St Paul’s
• Renting out space downstairs / cleaning and modifying space for needs of renter
Sacred Spaces does offer a grant that can be utilized to accomplish goals for future growth. The discussion above will be ongoing.
That's it for this week! Have a great week, Hope to see you on Sunday!
Blessings,
The Gabriel Staff
